First published in 1823, Witchcraft Detected & Prevented; or, The School of Black Art Newly Opened opens a window into the dark and often bewildering world of early Magic, Witchcraft, Alchemy and the so-called Black Arts. This curious and provocative volume draws heavily on ancient and scarce works—including Albertus Magnus’s Le Grand & le Petit Albert and Reginald Scot’s legendary Discovery of Witchcraft—and was once believed to expose the hidden workings of witches, magicians, and arcane schools in Europe.

Compiled by an anonymous member of the mysterious School of Black Art in Italy, the book offers over 230 spells, charms, medicinal receipts, revealing prodigious Secrets of Nature, Stones and Animals. Among these, learn:

• How to go invisible
• A charm to open all locks
• To raise Spirits and bind Devils
• To set a horse or an ass head on a man’s shoulders
• To drive away Spirits and Ghosts that haunt a house
